Update April 2003
This old allotment site needed a lot of preparation to clear bramble and rubbish prior to planting. Greenwich Parks and Open Spaces staff, had tackled some by hand as the ground was too steep to tackle without specialist equipment. Luckily the contractor who ripped Harmony Woods also had the right machine to clear the bramble and finshed the prearation in one day. Two community planting days and local school, Plumstead Primary, planted 300 trees with Fountain Forestry completing the task the following week. Views across the Thames Valley have been retained and a bench and signs will follow shortly. Because this site already has some established secondary woodland and a nearby wildlife reserve and mature woodland the planting should quickly become colonised by many birds and other species.
